IUD Insertion – Different Models
After selecting the type of IUD—hormonal or non-hormonal (copper)—the preparation process begins. This includes:
- A bacterial swab to rule out infections.
- A vaginal ultrasound to assess the uterus.
- Taking a painkiller along with a "softener" for the cervix to facilitate insertion.
The insertion is typically performed between the 3rd and 5th day of the menstrual cycle, as the cervix is naturally slightly open during this time. After insertion, an ultrasound is used to confirm the correct placement of the IUD.
A follow-up ultrasound is recommended approximately 4–6 weeks later to ensure the IUD remains correctly positioned in the uterus.
